Hyundai Kona Tire Pressure: The Right PSI for Your Tire Size
The Kona does not use one tire pressure for every wheel, so it pays to know which tire you have. This guide uses the 2027 Kona owner's manual on owners.hyundaiusa.com, read October 28, 2026, for the cold tire pressures by tire size, where to find the label, how to check, what to do as Indiana temperatures drop, and what the tire pressure warning light means. Other model years and the Kona Electric can differ, so check the label on your vehicle.
What is the recommended tire pressure for a Hyundai Kona?
For the 2027 Kona, the owner's manual lists 36 psi (250 kPa) front and rear for the 215/60R17 tire, and 33 psi (230 kPa) front and rear for the 215/55R18 and 235/45R19 tires, measured cold, at both normal and maximum load. The compact spare tire, if equipped, takes 60 psi (420 kPa). Your vehicle's figures are on the tire label on the driver's side center pillar.
2027 Kona tire pressures by size
| Tire size | Wheel size | Cold pressure, front and rear |
|---|---|---|
| 215/60R17 | 7.0J x 17 | 36 psi (250 kPa) |
| 215/55R18 | 7.0J x 18 | 33 psi (230 kPa) |
| 235/45R19 | 7.5J x 19 | 33 psi (230 kPa) |
| T145/90D16 compact spare (if equipped) | 4.0T x 16 | 60 psi (420 kPa) |
From the Tires And Wheels table in chapter 2 of the 2027 Kona owner's manual (page 2-14), read October 28, 2026. The manual gives one figure per tire size for normal load and maximum load, front and rear.
Your tire size is printed on the tire sidewall. The manual says not to exceed the maximum inflation pressure found on the sidewall of the tire, that tire inflation pressures may differ with changes in elevation, so check and adjust if you drive in areas of higher or lower elevation, and that replacement tires should always be the same size, type, brand, construction and tread pattern supplied with the vehicle.
Where to find the Kona tire pressure label
The 2027 manual says the tire label located on the driver's side center pillar gives the tire pressures recommended for your vehicle. Its tire care section adds that all specifications (sizes and pressures) can be found on a label attached to the driver's side center pillar, and its TPMS section refers to the tire inflation pressure label located on the driver's side center pillar outer panel.
If your Kona has tires of a different size than the label shows, the manual says you should determine the proper tire inflation pressure for those tires.
How to check tire pressure the way Hyundai recommends
Hyundai says to check your tires, including the spare (if equipped), at least once a month, when the tires are cold: not driven for at least three hours, or driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km). Warm tires normally exceed the cold figure by 4 to 6 psi (28 to 41 kPa), and the manual says not to release air from warm tires to adjust them.
- Use a good quality tire pressure gauge. You cannot tell if your tires are properly inflated simply by looking at them; radial tires may look properly inflated when they are underinflated.
- Remove the valve cap from the tire valve stem and press the gauge firmly onto the valve.
- If the cold pressure is low, add air until it reaches the recommended pressure. If you overfill, release air by pushing on the metal stem in the center of the tire valve, then recheck with the gauge.
- Put the valve caps back on. Without a cap, dirt or moisture may get into the valve core and cause air leakage; if one is missing, install a new one as soon as possible.
You can also see tire pressures in the Utility view mode on the cluster. They appear after a few minutes of driving ("Drive to display" shows when the vehicle is stopped), and the manual notes the displayed values may differ from a tire gauge reading. The unit can be changed under Setup > General > Unit > Tire Pressure Unit in the infotainment system. If a tire frequently needs refilling, Hyundai says to have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
Kona tire pressure in cold weather
Expect a drop
Tires typically lose 1 psi (7 kPa) for every 12°F (7°C) temperature drop. If extreme temperature variations are expected, the manual says to recheck your tire pressure as necessary.
Add 3 psi if cold is coming
The manual says it is permissible to add 3 psi (20 kPa) to the standard tire pressure specification if colder temperatures are expected soon.
Snow tires
Snow tires should carry 4 psi (28 kPa) more than the standard pressure on the tire label, or up to the sidewall maximum, whichever is less, be installed on all four wheels, and not be driven faster than 75 mph (120 km/h).
Light on a cold morning
The low tire pressure telltale may come on in cold weather if the pressure was set in warm weather. The manual says this does not mean the TPMS is malfunctioning, and to check and adjust the pressures when you move between warm and cold areas.
From the Tires And Wheels notice, Snow tires and Tire Pressure Monitoring System sections of the 2027 Kona owner's manual, read October 28, 2026.
What the Kona tire pressure light means
The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) turns on the low tire pressure telltale when one or more tires is significantly under-inflated, and the low tire pressure position telltale shows which tire. Hyundai says the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance, and that it cannot alert you to severe and sudden tire damage caused by things like nails or road debris.
If either telltale comes on, the manual says to:
- Immediately reduce your speed, avoid hard cornering and anticipate increased stopping distances.
- Stop and check your tires as soon as possible.
- Inflate the tires to the pressure on the placard or tire inflation pressure label on the driver's side center pillar outer panel.
The same telltale doubles as the TPMS malfunction indicator: when the system detects a malfunction, it flashes for about one minute and then stays on. Hyundai says to have the system inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealer if the telltale does not come on for 3 seconds at start-up, if it stays on after blinking for about 1 minute, or if the position telltale stays on. Power lines, radio transmitters, snow chains and electronic devices near the vehicle can also interfere with the TPMS. The compact spare does not have a pressure sensor, so the low pressure light stays on while it is mounted. Our service team can check tires and the TPMS; schedule service online.

Hyundai Kona tire pressure questions
What should the tire pressure be on a 2027 Hyundai Kona?
The 2027 Kona owner's manual lists 36 psi (250 kPa) for the 215/60R17 tire and 33 psi (230 kPa) for the 215/55R18 and 235/45R19 tires, front and rear, at normal and maximum load, measured cold. The compact spare tire (if equipped) takes 60 psi (420 kPa).
Why does the Kona use different pressures for different wheels?
The manual gives a separate figure for each tire size: 36 psi on the 17 inch tire and 33 psi on the 18 and 19 inch tires. Check the size printed on your tire sidewall, then use the matching figure or the tire label on the driver's side center pillar.
Where is the tire pressure label on a Kona?
The 2027 manual says the tire label located on the driver's side center pillar gives the tire pressures recommended for your vehicle, and that all specifications (sizes and pressures) can be found on a label attached to the driver's side center pillar.
Should I check Kona tire pressure hot or cold?
Cold. The manual says cold tires means the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours or driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km). Warm tires normally exceed the recommended cold pressures by 4 to 6 psi (28 to 41 kPa), and Hyundai says not to release air from warm tires to adjust the pressure.
Why does my Kona tire pressure light come on when it gets cold?
The manual says that in winter or cold weather the Low Tire Pressure Telltale may come on if the pressure was adjusted to the recommended level in warm weather, because lower temperatures lower tire pressure. It does not mean the TPMS is malfunctioning; check the pressures and adjust them to the recommended level.
What pressure do snow tires need on a Kona?
The manual says snow tires should carry 4 psi (28 kPa) more than the pressure recommended for the standard tires on the tire label on the driver's side of the center pillar, or up to the maximum pressure shown on the tire sidewall, whichever is less. It also says to install them on all four wheels and not to drive faster than 75 mph (120 km/h) on snow tires.
