Hyundai Santa Fe Remote Start Guide

On a cold Goshen morning, remote start lets you start your Santa Fe from outside before you head out. Below are the smart key steps from the 2027 Santa Fe owner's manual (read October 26, 2026), the conditions that block or end a remote start, and how the phone digital key and Bluelink fit in. Equipment varies by trim and year, so your own manual is the final word.

Getting in after a remote start

Take a registered smart key with you. Without one, the manual says the engine turns off when you get in and the "Smart Key must be present to keep the vehicle running" message is displayed.

If you unlock with a phone digital key after a remote start, the 2027 Santa Fe cluster (if equipped) can show "Place digital key on the wireless charger to keep the vehicle running" (Start Vehicle deselected in the infotainment Settings menu for Driver 1 and Driver 2) or "Place digital key on the wireless charger" (Start Vehicle selected for Driver 1 or Driver 2, or after unlocking with the Blue Link app). The manual says the message is displayed for up to 30 seconds when a door is opened, and that to drive, you place the registered digital key on the wireless charger.

On vehicles with Advanced Rear Occupant Alert, the manual notes that if the vehicle is started remotely, inside movement detection stops.

Remote start from a phone digital key

PhoneWhat the 2027 Santa Fe manual says
Ultra Wide Band (UWB) phoneWhen the phone and vehicle are connected by Bluetooth, Door Lock/Unlock, Remote Start, Panic and Trunk/Frunk open are available in the app provided by the phone maker. To start remotely, lock the vehicle with the door lock button in that app and press the remote start button within 4 seconds. The vehicle starts and the hazard warning lights blink. Press remote start again to turn it off.
Phone without UWBPlace the registered phone on the vehicle authentication pad (wireless charging pad), press the brake pedal and press the Engine Start/Stop button. The manual describes no remote start for these phones.

The manual says the Remote Start, Panic or Frunk/Trunk open function may not be available depending on the country or vehicle type (hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle), and the phone's Bluetooth must be on.

Vehicle Auto-Shut Off (if equipped)

This is a separate feature from the 10-minute remote start shutoff. The 2027 Santa Fe manual says that if the vehicle is parked and the engine is left on for a long time, Vehicle Auto-Shut Off turns the engine off to help reduce fuel consumption and help prevent accidents.

Its timer runs only when all of the manual's listed conditions are met, including speed below 1.8 mph (3 km/h) in P (Park), the brake and accelerator pedals not pressed, the driver's seat belt unfastened and the passenger seat empty. The engine then turns off after 60 minutes, and a timer appears on the cluster 30 minutes before. Hyundai warns not to leave a passenger or a pet in the vehicle in hot weather, since the air conditioning turns off when the engine is off.
