Hyundai Santa Fe Tire Pressure: The Right PSI by Tire Size

The right tire pressure for a Santa Fe depends on its wheel and tire size. This guide uses the 2027 Santa Fe owner's manual on owners.hyundaiusa.com, read October 28, 2026, for the cold tire pressures by size, where to find the label, how to check, what to do as Indiana temperatures drop, and what the tire pressure warning light means. Other model years can differ, so check the label on your vehicle.

What is the recommended tire pressure for a Hyundai Santa Fe?

For the 2027 Santa Fe, the owner's manual lists 35 psi (240 kPa) front and rear for the 235/60 R18 and 245/60 R18 tires, and 36 psi (250 kPa) front and rear for the 255/45 R20 and 245/45 R21 tires, measured cold. The same figure applies at normal and maximum load. Your vehicle's exact figures are on the label on the driver's side center pillar.

From the Tires and wheels table in chapter 10 of the 2027 Santa Fe owner's manual (printed page 784), read October 28, 2026. The manual gives one figure for normal load and maximum load, front and rear.

Your tire size is printed on the tire sidewall and on the label described below. The manual says not to exceed the maximum inflation pressure on the tire sidewall, and that inflation pressures may vary with changes in elevation, so check and adjust if you drive in areas of higher or lower elevation.

Where to find the Santa Fe tire pressure label

The 2027 manual says all specifications (sizes and pressures) can be found on a label attached to the driver's side center pillar. Its tire pressure monitoring section describes the same tire inflation pressure label on the driver's side center pillar outer panel.

If your Santa Fe has tires of a different size than the label shows, the manual says you should determine the proper inflation pressure for those tires.

How to check tire pressure the way Hyundai recommends

Hyundai says to check all tires, including the spare, at least once a month, when the tires are cold: not driven for at least three hours, or driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km). Warm tires normally read 4 to 6 psi (28 to 41 kPa) above the cold figure, and the manual says not to let air out of warm tires to adjust them.

  1. Use a good quality tire pressure gauge; you cannot tell if a radial tire is properly inflated by looking at it.
  2. Remove the valve cap and press the gauge firmly onto the valve.
  3. If the pressure is low, add air until it reaches the recommended pressure. If you overfill, push on the metal stem in the center of the valve to release air, then recheck.
  4. Put the valve caps back on. Without a cap, dirt or moisture may get into the valve core and cause air leakage.

On the 2027 Santa Fe you can also see tire pressures in the utility view of the cluster display. They appear after a few minutes of driving (or "Drive to display" shows when stopped), and the manual notes the displayed values may differ from a tire gauge reading. The unit can be changed under Setup > General > Units > Tire Pressure Unit in the infotainment system. If a tire often needs air, Hyundai says to have it inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Santa Fe tire pressure in cold weather

Expect a drop

Tires typically lose 1 psi (7 kPa) for every 12°F (7°C) temperature drop. If extreme temperature swings are expected, recheck your pressures.

Up to 3 psi extra

The manual says it is permissible to add 3 psi (20 kPa) to the standard specification if colder temperatures are expected soon.

Snow tires

Snow tires should carry 4 psi (28 kPa) more than the standard pressure on the pillar label, or up to the sidewall maximum, whichever is less, and be installed on all four wheels.

Light after a cold night

The low tire pressure light may come on in cold weather if the pressure was set in warm weather. The manual says this does not mean the TPMS is malfunctioning.

From the Tires and wheels notice, Snow tires, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System sections of the 2027 Santa Fe owner's manual, read October 28, 2026.

What the Santa Fe tire pressure light means

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) turns on the low tire pressure telltale when one or more tires is significantly under-inflated, and the Low Tire Pressure Position Telltale on the cluster display shows which tire. Hyundai says the TPMS is not a substitute for checking pressures with a gauge.

If the light comes on, the manual says to:

  • Reduce speed, avoid hard cornering and expect longer stopping distances.
  • Stop and check your tires as soon as possible.
  • Inflate the tires to the pressure on the label on the driver's side center pillar.

The same telltale doubles as the TPMS malfunction indicator: when the system detects a malfunction, it flashes for about one minute and then stays on. Hyundai says to have the system inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealer if the telltale does not come on for 3 seconds at start-up, if it stays on after blinking for about a minute, or if the position telltale stays on. Our service team can check tires and the TPMS; schedule service online.

Hyundai Santa Fe tire pressure questions

What should the tire pressure be on a 2027 Hyundai Santa Fe?

The 2027 Santa Fe owner's manual lists 35 psi (240 kPa) front and rear for the 18-inch tire sizes (235/60 R18 and 245/60 R18) and 36 psi (250 kPa) front and rear for the 255/45 R20 and 245/45 R21 sizes, cold, at both normal and maximum load.

Where is the tire pressure label on a Santa Fe?

The manual says all specifications (sizes and pressures) can be found on a label attached to the driver's side center pillar.

Should I check Santa Fe tire pressure hot or cold?

Cold. The manual defines cold tires as not driven for at least three hours, or driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km). Warm tires normally read 4 to 6 psi (28 to 41 kPa) higher, and Hyundai says not to release air from warm tires to adjust the pressure.

Why is my Santa Fe tire pressure light on when it gets cold?

The manual says the Low Tire Pressure Telltale may come on in cold weather if the pressure was set to the recommended level in warm weather, because lower temperatures lower tire pressure. It does not mean the TPMS is malfunctioning; check and adjust the pressures.

Can I add extra air for winter?

The manual says it is permissible to add 3 psi (20 kPa) to the standard specification if colder temperatures are expected soon, and that tires typically lose 1 psi (7 kPa) for every 12°F (7°C) drop. Never exceed the maximum pressure on the tire sidewall.

What pressure do snow tires need on a Santa Fe?

The manual says snow tires should carry 4 psi (28 kPa) more than the pressure recommended for the standard tires on the label on the driver's side center pillar, or up to the maximum pressure on the tire sidewall, whichever is less.
